I have been living in New York from August 1997 until July 2003, first in Midtown, then in the Upper West Side and a couple of weeks in Jersey, a year in Soho and finally in Astoria. New York is an intriging city and most visitors are overwhelmed by its energy. Living here though, is quite something different. Coming here, I left behind my family and friends, and to build up a new social life in any big city isn't easy.

Luckily there are so many interesting people here, that putting in an effort really pays off and so I am starting to like this place more and more. Still I noticed that it's very difficult to befriend Americans as they seem very busy getting ahead and give lower priority to their social life. According to the latest statistics, they now work even more hours than the Japanese. Still you can find stylish bars, filled with young and beautiful people and excellent concerts any day of the week. And don't forget the restaurants. You can eat here the best of any food you can ever imagine.

Flying over Manhattan is one of the coolest things around. Getting your pilot license though is quite some hard work and unfortunately I haven't had enough time to do the full course. I have been flying from Caldwell airport, which is about 45 minutes drive out of Manhattan. You can't just start practicing at JFK! If you're out here you should definitely give it a try.
