With most family in Japan and the Netherlands and friends from all over the world, where should we get married? This was the question we asked ourselves after Chisako said yes. To have everybody come over to New York and stay in hotels would be prohibitive expensive and even tough I think New York is a really great city to visit, it is not necessarily the most romantic. To have the wedding in Holland would be quite a shock for the Japanese and a Japanese wedding with all its formality would probably be too much of a challenge for the liberal Dutch. One thing was certain, to attend, many people would have to fly to the other side of the planet, regardless of where we would organize it. And so when my friend Peter from Fiji
mentioned we could do it on Treasure Island the decision was quickly made. We had been there before and had had a wonderful time. It is one of the most romantic spots on earth and has decent food too. And it would be a great place for the families to meet eachother. The date was set: July 21, 2001.

Amazingly over 40 people made the trip all the way to Fiji and made the wedding an unforgettable and defining event. The Dutch spending more than 24 hours in an airplane and still ready to party, the Japanese taking a break from their busy schedule to welcome in their family people so different. Friends from so many corners of the world that jetlag becomes just another excuse to keep the bar open 24 hours. Thank you for coming.
