While
we were staying with Adrian at the Masia in Barcelona I thought it would be
a good idea to take a trip through the Iberian peninsula. It took a while before
we left Barcelona. Life at the Masia can make you really lazy, and before you
know it a whole day or even week is gone. But we managed to escape and went to
Cuenca, about 100 kilometer east of Madrid. It is a small city with a beautiful old town
overlooking two valleys. The restaurants and bars there are mostly in unventilated
old cellars. All Spanish seem to smoke and so the air inside is so thick that you can
almost cut it. Luckily the outside air was fresh and we were able to explore most
of Cuenca without further air pollution. After

Cuenca we drove on to Salamanca, and
what a wonderful town that is! People from
all over the world come to Salamanca to learn Spanish and as a result it is quite
a party town.
Later after our visit to Portugal and
Morocco we stayed a few

days in
Puerto Banús in the Costa del Sol. As it was the end of the season we had no
problem finding excellent accomodation
and so we ended up renting a whole apartment for the price of a hotel room.
The Costa del Sol is completely overdeveloped and hundreds of thousands of
British and Germans have colonized the place. Puerto Banús has a pretty marina
that is filled up with luxurious yachts and is lined with restaurants and bars.
Quite a nice place, but with so many British around it is difficult to imagine
you are in Spain. Unfortunately in such a touristic place it is hard to find a
decent restaurant and I was quite happy when Chisako

proposed to make use of the
kitchen. Now that we are traveling, we eat out almost everyday and after a while
you really start longing for some homecooking again.
