autobahn at night.
And so after leaving Holland and driving for 15 hours I found myself in Ljubljana at
8 in the morning. It was finally time for a rest. So we found a nice hotel that
allowed us to check in so early, got a few hours sleep and then went out to get some
lunch. What a charming city! Ljubljana is a small city with plenty of terraces to
sit down for a sandwich or a drink. With almost no tourist in sight it
has not been established as a major destination. But nonetheless the city is full
of people. Especially in the evening the streets in the center are packed with
fashionably dressed young people eating and drinking, having a good time.
Obviously Slovenia is doing very well, having avoided most of the problems that
have troubled the rest of the Balkan. On the evening of becoming a member
of the European Union it is clear that Slovenia belongs in this union much more than
it ever did in the old Yugoslavian federation.
