While spending a week in Dubrovnik on the Croatian coast with Eric and Amparo, we
decided to drive down a bit to Montenegro. While Chisako officially needs a visa
to enter the republic of Serbia, the borderguards of Montenegro have different
ideas about who runs their country, and besides from a few impolite looks the
border crossing is remarkable easy.

While
Montenegro is not a popular tourist destination for the average traveller,
Serbians flock to its beautiful coastline by the thousands. It's probably the
only choice they have nowadays as Serbians are not particularly welcomed in
most of the newly independent neighboring countries. But to our surprise Montenegro
offers a fantastic choice. The southernmost
fjord in Europe at sunset
is stunning,
while the old town of Kotor matches the beauty of similar towns along the Croation coast
without the feeling of being caught in a tourist trap. And the nightlife in Herzog
Novi is livelier and less pretentious than Dubrovnik. I will certainly come back
to spend more time exploring this relatively unspoiled country.
